In this month's Eyecandy blog, Emma explores some 2018 trends for one of the most important rooms in the house, the kids bedroom!
With a kids bedroom redesign the first thing to tackle is the mantra ‘How to make the design of the room last for a good few years, so that they don’t grow out of it too quickly’. Always think carefully about ‘theming’ the room too much as little ones can be fickle, and however much they love Peppa Pig and Fireman Sam now, in six months time it will be Mermaids, Unicorns and Spiderman that they want!
Childrens bedrooms can often be small, therefore clever design is key to making the best use of the space you’ll be working with. Try to look at an option of a higher-raised bed such as a Cabin Bed so the child has room underneath for a desk, sofa, or room to play. And, never forgot that lots of storage is essential and that all space can be utilised from wall space, and new shelves, to old revamped bookcases, equally use wall brackets to host TVs and game stations.
There are a few key elements to making a childrens room both fun and practical by thinking about the overall look and feel of the room. Is the aim ‘Fun & Funky’ or ‘Calm & Serene’? Remember the colour scheme you choose will make all the difference, plus fun wallpapers or wall murals in childrens rooms can be a brilliant addition. Lighting is a very important factor, dimmable lights for evenings are good as are night-lights for bedtime.
There are lots of great childrens rooms accessories out there at the moment, hanging chairs, gaming chairs, teepees and so much more to give that little something extra to your revamped room.
Looking at key trends for childrens bedrooms in 2018 there are plenty to choose from, all ideal for different tastes:
- Metallics – Brass & Rose Gold. Pick a key item like a kid’s bed to make a real statement.
- Unicorns – This trend is huge all over the world! Go for smaller items such as duvet covers, pictures & soft toys so that it can be changed on a whim if needed.
- Velvet – Decorative velvet throws, quilts and cushions are a few of the simplest ways to bring a little grandeur to a kids bedroom. If they like style and luxury then they’ll love velvet.
- 1950’s Glamour – Modernist style furniture is very popular with a nod to 1950’s Hollywood Glamour and the curved shape silhouettes. Look out for curved bedroom chairs & vintage style wooden table & chairs. Ideal for kids that want to make a sophisticated statement.
Keep your eyes peeled for some seriously fabulous childrens bedroom styles, and if you don’t know where to start try looking online with Instagram, Pinterest, and Houzz and you’ll be in redecorating heaven before you know it.
Here’s to a fab new bedroom that your children will love for years to come!
